Summer Time Reminisce:
Sometimes in the summer we like to look back at a time in the past that many of us will never forget. I can remember watching UK basketball in Tubbys last season. UK was leading Vanderbilt the whole game. As I put it in the Video, We led the whole game, we led the whole FRICKIN game and let it slip away “right at the end”!
This was the game that sent this Cat fan into a rampage. At the time, I was doing Cyber Shows for Dynasty Defenders, I still do occasionally, just not with as much fire and brimstone because that Vandy game really pissed me off. Of course, I am an emotional guy and you never know what I might put on one of the Cyber Shows.

I re-uploaded it recently. Originally, it had over a million hits and was on CBS Sportsline, Deadspin (Deadspin carried the Tubby Sucks song video) I still laugh at myself over that one. (Below)
Segments of the Vandy Rant were played on Czabe on Memphis Radio where I was interviewed. Of course that interview saw our Billy Donovan prediction to UK shattered, but in retrospect that turned out to be good for UK.

When a reporter told Derek Anderson that OTS took them to a title in 98 Anderson replied “no he didn’t, we took him”. The following 3 years OTS lost double digit games and NO player he recruited ever played in a final 4. When we won in 98 he didn’t think he had to listen to anyone, even his employers. Some want to adore OTS but they should remember what he said when asked how a coach should be remembered. He replied “I’d say it would depend on where a program was when he took it over and where it was when he left it”. By his own admission he was a abysmal failure!
Final Word on Tubby
While many plead with us to simply let the Tubby saga go…I actually have, but every now and then it’s quite alright to remember how and why we are where we are at as a basketball program. We are here because Tubby couldn’t deliver over the long haul. We have found out that over the years you can take shit and use it as fertilizer. UK fans, boosters, and people that love UK just wont let us die. A little fertilizer will help you grow. Thanks for the Fertilizer Tubby, I guess.

I saved that quote from years ago and that is how I understood it. Anyway, the players did take Smith there to the promised land, because Smith certainly never was able to replicate that feat with his own that he recruited. I find it very believeable. Then again when you are an old codger like me it very well could be I got Anderson and Sheppard mixed up…but what the heck.
That was not how I interrupted the comment. We would imply that he was a part of it and Derek clearly wasn't. Don't get me wrong, I have never been a Smith supporter. Just saying that are other quotes out there that would help your agenda better than this one.
Tell the whole story about Aunt Bee's pickles and Andy and Otis. Everybody. Don't hold back Katman.
Yeah we know Anderson left after 97 but he was interviewed in 98. Thus the quote in the blog from 98. When Anderson said we he meant UK.
Tubby quit recruiting for a few years to end his tenure and he caused the necessity to hire another coach which brought us Gillispie (Disaster). He quit on us and then quit his job. It deserves a thumbs down.It was worse than Aunt Bees pickles.
If I am an idiot for pointing that out then the world is full of em because more than half the Big Blue Nation wanted change long before we got it. Its nt the fans fault Barnhart hired Gillispie before we finally got it right.
Anderson left after the 97 season.
Don't cry Randy, your hero is still working up north.
